Mouse, meeses, Mice... No matter how you say it, they are a menace

what do mice eat, how to get rid of mice

House Mice

All of us at one time or another have had a run-in or two with a little rodent. Well, NYC we are here to tell you a bit about this little rodent. First of all here at Beyond Pest Control, would like to give you the information you will need to get rid of these rodents. The name of this furry “house pest” is ironically enough the house mouse, (not too complicated now is it?).

The house mouse is really tiny, only about 1-2 inches long and has very large ears, a small pointy nose and little black beady eyes. They are usually grey or brown in color, but some may be darker. Second these little rodents will eat anything but if they can get their hands on cereal or anything sweet they will destroy your cupboard. Also, they don’t drink much water because they get it mainly from their food source.

The house mouse likes to live in close proximity to us humans. It would be their best bet if they want to eat. Be careful as mice do spread disease, some diseases may be deadly. Wild mice can also transmit rabies, so try not to go near or touch a wild mouse house. They can also damage food and food packaging.

Reproduction:

If the situation permits and your home becomes the perfect spot for these rodents then guess what NYC!! You will have a house filled with lovely mice. They reproduce very quickly and are mature adults within only 2 months, so that means that they are able to mate and each female can have up to 8 litters in only one year; also, they have anywhere from 4-7 pups or baby mice within that litter.

Having said that you might just be able to imagine NYC the problem and how quickly it will turn to chaos in your home. These rodents usually nest in warm areas like, behind walls, attics, basements, etc. So you may not notice 1 or 2 but you will notice 40 or more.

Prevention and Control:

Mice

Mice can survive in very small areas with limited amounts of food and shelter. So try to eliminate any source of food. Eliminating all openings through which they can enter your premise. Seal cracks in building foundations and around openings for water pipes, vents, and utility cables with metal or concrete. Doors, windows, and screens should fit tightly. It may be necessary to cover the edges of doors and windows with metal to prevent gnawing.

Plastic screening, rubber or vinyl, insulating foam, wood, and other gnawable materials are unsuitable for plugging holes used by mice. Keep in mind Mice and rats alike, are made up of 90% cartilage. The only bone in their body is its skull. Therefore they can squeeze through a hole the size of their head. A myth about mice is that they like cheese. They really don't. They however prefer bananas and peanut butter. Bait traps with peanut butter, chocolate candy, dried fruit or a small piece of bacon will surely get these furry little mice.

Here at Beyond Pest Control our guys know rodents, rodent populations, species, and reproduction, how they live and search for food as well as nesting materials, and behavior. We take all of this into consideration when placing either bait stations or glue traps, and because we use green products upon request your pets and children will not be affected by the poison; I say this because we may have to place some poison in your kitchen, basement, attic, and living space in general so a child or pet may get to it, and if it isn’t green, then you are on the phone with poison control, but at Beyond Pest Control you will not have to worry about that ever happening.
